Register for the 2014 Actuarial Research Conference

Registration is open for the 49th Actuarial Research Conference (ARC), scheduled for July 13-16, 2014 in Santa Barbara, California. This year’s conference will be hosted by the University of California at Santa Barbara. The CAS and other actuarial organizations in North America are sponsoring the conference.
The conference is an opportunity for academics and practitioners to meet and discuss actuarial problems and solutions. It also provides a forum for discussing general issues regarding actuarial education and research.
Highlights of the program include plenary speakers:
• Paul Embrechts, Prof. Dr. (ETH Zurich)
• Wayne Fisher, FCAS, MAAA FCIA CERA, (Casualty Actuarial Society, president)
And special sessions:
• Actuarial Education Update: Panel discussion with representatives of CAS and SOA
• Actuarial Research: Panel discussion with Heads of Research from CAS, CIA, IFoA, SOA

The NAAC (North American Actuarial Council – US/Canada/Mexico leadership) is sponsoring a study of the supply of and demand for actuaries and “para-actuaries” such as data scientists and predictive modelers. The CAS should be represented on the project oversight group. Might any of you, or one of your committee members, be interested in participating? This should not be a massive time investment as it is a “steering committee” role.
